  1. Two Patch Block
  2. Nine Patch Quilt Block
  3. Half Square Triangle Block
  4. Friendship Star Block
  5. Ohio Star Quilt Block
  6. Pinwheel Mosaic Block
  7. Duck Tracks Quilt Block
  8. Double Pinwheel
  9. Paper Pinwheel

My Accuquilt Go! was used to cut the pieces of the blocks out. So handy with perfect cuts every time!! Before stitching, I changed the Schmetz vinyl needle on my Brother Dreamweaver. I also cleaned the bobbin casing, as with every new project.

This was a design as you go project assisted by the design wall–so helpful to audition placement. There were a few design twists along the way!

The final design centered three Ohio Star blocks, added two Friendship Star blocks then completed four different pinwheel blocks. Each square block was trimmed to 11.25 inches. The blocks were separated by two-inch sashing. My Oliso project iron pressed the seams open, preferred when completing star blocks.

A butterfly in my Bernina 750 stitch library was completed in 40 wt. Aurifil blues and placed center in the top panel. A two-inch two-patch sashing is the final perimeter.

I used Hobbs Heirloom Fusible batting. This batting temporarily attaches to the top and backing of a quilt when ironed. It can be hand or machine quilted up to 4″ apart. Once it’s washed, it is very much like Heirloom Premium 80/20 cotton batting. After washing, the batting will shrink up to 3%, creating the desired look of antique quilts. I steamed the wrinkled batting which made it very soft and more pliable to handle. I also used a double layer and was very pleased with the quilting outcome.

Quilting was accomplished on my domestic Brother Dreamweaver. I chose a curvy vine stitch which enhanced the enchanted theme of the project. Choosing an Aurifil light green for the top stitching and a light blue for the bobbin. The stitching on the beautiful Enchanted Flutter, Butterflies and Leaves-Blue Ocean, used for the back looks like constellations in the night sky!

The original design included Nine Patch and simple Pinwheel blocks. The abandoned blocks were used in table runners and fabric boxes instead. Such a pretty collection!

This is so pretty Renee! I like the addition of the embroidered butterfly, and that quilting with the specialty stitch must have taken a lot of time to do, but so worth it. Have a lovely day.
