The Island Batik Collection, Frosted Foliage by Tiffany Hayes of Needle in a Hayes Stack, is a gorgeous fabric collection. I was attracted to the mint color tints in the collection. Mint is a favorite color in my family; especially with my daughters!
I love the extra helps when working on a bag from Patterns By Annie. Add-on Courses which address specific patterns and tutorials for By Annie basics like zippers, bindings and straps. Another helpful resource is the pattern piece tags included with each pattern–really helps with organization!!

Before starting the project, I selected a matching Aurifil thread, cleaned my Brother Dreamweaver’s bobbin housing and changed the Schmetz vinyl needle because there is fusible interfacing used with this project. My Oliso project iron is perfect for the interfacing and for precision press on handles, ties and binding.
Before starting on the purse, I first watched the Night and Day Project Add-On Video. Annie also suggests reading the pattern all the way through both helpful in construction steps! Mini clips are great holders for the quilted pieces in the pattern which are backed with By Annie’s Soft and Stable which is washer and dryer safe!
I opted to do diagonal quilting on the purse with a wavy design. I also used a stitch on my Brother Dreamweaver which imitates Shashiko stitching for the tote exterior using different shades of Aurifil thread to simulate a wavy weave of plaid warp and weft threads.

The purse came together quickly; I did opt to complete prep work on all pieces needing quilting or interfacing first for both the purse and the tote.

There were a few adjustments on the tote. I opted to add a mesh pocket and not do the recommended zippered welt pocket which was replaced with a simple basic pocket. For a pop of color, I did add a piece of butterfly ribbon to the front of the pocket. The decision to omit the welt pocket created the need to determine how the purse would be turned right side out after sewing the exterior and interior together. I opted to use the corner cutouts, and it worked out very well. The tote could be reversible as I added binding to those corner seams.

I love the and their versatility of the purse and tote. They work together, the purse fits perfectly in the tote and they can easily be used separately!
