August 2025 Hot Stuff Challenge with Oliso

Project: Embellish the Oliso Mini Iron Cover. Made of strong, durable polyester felt, the Oliso small carry bags provide protection from dust, dirt, and scratches. The bags are practical for storage and travel to classes and retreats, complete with comfortable handles for easy carrying.
The first thing I did was search Instagram for the hashtag: #GetCarriedAwayWithOliso and at the Oliso website! The searches revealed the cutest Mini Iron Carry Bags with embellishments of embroidery, beading, lace, ribbon; all kinds of creative results! Some projects added embellishments on the gray polyester felt and others that covered the entire carry bag.
Lumin Fabrics even provided the following resources which can be used for any project!

My first thoughts on design assumed that definitely applique would be used. My Accuquilt Go library of cutting dies has a variety of applique cutouts and I settled on the cutest camper die!

I measured the Oliso Small Carry Bag for my M3Pro project iron and created a pattern for the sides, top, and opening flap. I interfaced Island Batik’s Colorburst’s Lily Floral Blue Powder for the side panels and Colorburst’s Sprigs Yellow Honey for the bag top. Colorburst’s Lily Floral Green Frost (for side panel grass) the camper, and Island Batik’s Solid Coral camper pieces were interfaced with Pellon 725 Wonder Under double sided fusible.

The first thing prior to sewing was to clean the Brother Dreamweaver bobbin housing and install a new Schmetz Microtex needle. The opening flap of the Carry Bag was interfaced and top stitched with a wavy stitch from the library of stitches on my Brother Dreamweaver. My Brother was able to sew through the felt so the opening flap was easily covered.
The side panel pieces were topstitched after checking the fit on the bag. Then the grass applique piece was ironed on and satin stitched unto the bottom edge of the side panels. In order to fit to the side panels, I did have to cut down the camper appliques (made from an Island Batik Stash Builder) and the camper door (made from an Island Batik Foundations coral solid), a 1/4 inch. Once satisfied with the fit, the camper, door and window were ironed on the side panel and also satin stitched. Trees were added on either side of the camper using specialty stitches and buttons, colorful Spring buttons on one side and Autumn leaves on the other. It was easy to hand stitch the side panels to the Carry Bag.
The yellow top panel was hand-embroidered and beaded. Fun to do!
