Challenge: What’s in your Bag challenge with ByAnnie.com
The Island Batik Challenge Parameters:
- Project Type: By Annie Bag, I selected the pattern, Back at Ya 2.1
- Island Batik Collection, Flora Nova, provided by Island Batik, thread by Aurifil, needles by Schmetz

I determined to complete three of these sweet bags for my three grandchildren. ByAnnie generously provide the pattern, the Soft and Stable and all the necessary hardware for one bag. I purchased the additional hardware and zippers required to make two additional bags. The Back At Ya 2.1 pattern has supporting Add-On videos which are so helpful to view prior to initiating your project.

My determination to make three bags required organization! Thank goodness the By Annie pattern includes a sheet of tabs identifying each pattern piece. Since I work during the day as a healthcare regulatory specialist, it took several evenings to cut out the fabric, Soft & Stable, mesh and strapping for the three bags then pinning on the identification tabs for the pattern pieces of three project piles.
I wanted to make each bag unique so the granddaughters could tell them apart. I mixed and matched the Flora Nova collection fabrics I choose which included Medium Daisy-Black Midnight, Mini Daisy-Black Slate, and Large Daisy-Black Slate. I doubled up the mesh for the inner pocket with extra By Annie mesh I had purchased, mixing yellow and blue then yellow and orange. I think the mesh mixes enhanced the sturdiness of the mesh plus it was so pretty.

I revised the pattern a little for each bag, adding mesh to a front and back pocket, adding inner pockets. It was a tedious project, the work went slowly but the By Annie instructions and Add-on videos were most helpful.

The Flora Nova collection is shipping to stores in October 2024 to fabric shops including these:
