Wow, such a beautiful fabric collection!! I love blue & white together!! I have a collection of blue & white porcelain from Japan, Denmark, England, and China. My original idea was to do a quilt with a holiday tea setting center panel with Stars in each corner of the quilt.

I bought the patterns for the Star and the Tea Setting on Etsy. Tea setting as shown below.

I started by viewing several FPP You Tube videos. My favorite? The Fons & Porter Sew Easy Paper Piecing. I learned to double fold the pattern pieced along the sew line. I scored the sew line first as shown in the pictures. That was a great time saver. The paper came off so quickly! I used the tip of a child’s scissor and used the Paper cutter’s slotted ruler as a guide. Lots of prep work but worth it in the end!

During the project, my daughter’s father-in-law suddenly passed away. I knew I had to switch gears to support my daughter and son-in-law through their time of sorrow. The May Island Batik challenge took a new direction. It shifted from the Holiday Teatime Lap Quilt to the Winter Solstice reversible table runner.

The Star pattern had crisp results, as a FPP novice, I was pleased with the outcome!.

During the process, the paper prep was very important. My Oliso Smart Iron was also crucial. Additionally, a sharp pair of scissors was necessary. I had just received a pair of scissors. They were from my affiliation with Missouri Star Quilt Company. I was so glad I had those on hand! Click on the link to go to my affiliate site to earn 20% off $50 or more!!

I had a pile of Snowed In fabric squares. I had cut them in preparation for the Tea Setting. With a change in direction, I did not want to abandon those squares. So, I grabbed a Quilt Guild Retreat door prize I was anxious to try–Thangles! The Thangles worked great with that stack of unmatched squares. I ended up using the HSTs on the reverse side of the table runner.

Of course, I used the Tucker Trimmer from Studio 180 Design to square off all those HSTs!

The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik. Snowed in is such a lovely fabric collection–Snow & Swirls, Stars and Deers, Pine Trees and Twigs, Snowflakes and Holly–so enchanting in blues and white! I was inspired by the deer to create a deer applique to put on each end of the runner, shown below. I also opted to do 7-inch pinwheels and squares for the reverse side. Here is a list of the Snowed In collection I used:
- Deer-Blue Marine
- Deer-Blue Chambray
- Deer Snowflake-Blue Chambray
- Deer Snowflake-Blue Ocean
- Pinetree-Blue Azure
- Twigs-Blue Ocean
- Snowflake Circles-White
- Snowflake Circles-Blue Chambray
- Snowflake Circles-Blue Storm
- Holly-Powder Blue
- Swirl Snowflake-Blue Chambray
- Swirl Snowflake-Blue Storm
- Swirl Snowflake-Blue Blueberry

Of course, Hobbs Batting was an integral part of the finish work. I used the Heirloom 80/20 bleached cotton batting, so important when you use a crisp white in your project!
