I love creating for the holidays so I determined to create easy sew projects using the incredible versatile fabrics from Island Batik.
First up were bowl cozies, a project I had yet to try. I found this free pattern on Pinterest from American Patchwork and Quilting. The Island Batik Stacks 10-inch squares, are perfect for bowl cozies and make it sew easy to complete this project quickly. Get some 10-inch stack fabrics and cut some 10-inch squares of Hobbs Heirloom Premium Cotton Batting. Each 10-inch fabric square is paired with a batting square and an X sewn from corner to corner of each paired set. Instead of drawing a line to make the dart to turn up the edges, I just trimmed the corners with a ruler and rotary cutter. (Saving the edges for my next project)

Once the 20 sewn sets were paired into 10 bowl cozy units. Sew right sides together leaving a three-inch space to turn inside out. Once the edge is sewn. the bowl cozy is done! Those were sew easy and turned out so pretty with those versatile Island Batik 10-inch stacks used! I found the perfect bowls to go with the cozies at Amazon by Vancasso! I have already gifted a few of those bowl cozies and all were appreciated. Makes my heart happy!

I am a scrap keeper, especially when working with Island Batiks. I use scraps in crazy quilts, applique and fabric collage. When I was cutting out the folded edges of the bowl cozy to create the darts, the output were triangle fabrics paired with triangle batting. I saved those 40 triangles and experimented. I ended up creating a unique, modern Christmas wall hanging using eclectic Island Batik fabrics. I left the edges raw and had the cutest hanger to hang it from! Fun!!

I had some Snowed In and Peppermint Sprinkles fabric collections left over from previous projects and wanted to make some holiday baskets. The Peppermint Sprinkles fabric 2.5-inch strips were matched with cut to length of fabric (LOF) Snowed In and other Island Batik fabrics that combine so well together. My Oliso Iron, Brother Dreamweaver and Schmetz Vinyl Needles were instrumental in the success of the basket projects. My Brother’s stitch assortment makes it fun to experiment with quilt stitching combinations. The vinyl needles made it easy to glide through those heavy layers and never skip ironing after sewing seams or quilting.
I made a variety of holiday baskets reinforcing with Patterns by Annie Soft and Stable. Sew easy to make these baskets! For the largest rectangle basket, I combined 42-inch LOF strips to make a 12-inch-wide panel. Cut in two 21-inch panels which had a three-inch squares cut from each lower corner. The lining was cut to match, seams sewn and a length of Soft and Stable placed in the finished bottom of the finished basket before adding the lining.

The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik.
